We are building a new team to develop Reusable Digital Use Cases which will be an Intellectual Property for VEON and ported to all our OPCOs, monetizing our ever-growing Telco and Application data sets. The launch of VEON app is an initiation of a journey from conventional telecom companytowards a Digital Company.
This team, and this role, is at the center of excellence & innovation in one of our development HUBs. The role of QA Engineer in our Reusable IP Team for the Big Data Analytics Platform is uniquely positioned to influence and work in a collaborative environment with internal and external resources to understand key business goals, validate quality of solutions, and present findings to business.

Within 30 days, you will…
· Learn about the technical environment of our next-gen Big Data products that will be deployed across multi sites and operated globally.
· Join one of our highly skilled Agile engineering and development team and get to know your colleagues and the company organization.
· Get familiar with process of requirements analysis and data analysis
· Review testing and test automation process for distributed data processing pipelines built using Spark, Hive, Sqoop, Python, and other tools and languages prevalent in the Hadoop ecosystem.

Within 60 days, you will…
· Be more and more involved in key design decisions and appreciate a fast-paced environment where your actions have impact.
· Get to know the stakeholders and spend more time in contact with project managers, product owners, analysts and data scientists, in an informal and dynamic setting.
· Work on building utilities, functions, and frameworks to better enable testing of data flow patterns.
· Research, evaluate and utilize new technologies/tools/frameworks centered around Hadoop and other elements in the Big Data space.
· Configure, track, document, and analyze complex data sources to help the customer obtain better insight into how these data sources may be used.
· Investigate and resolve operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical personnel.
· Develop logic, tests and debugs policy logic. Modify, test, and debug COTS and GOTS application performance in concert with vendor support, from a database perspective.
· Communicate technical decisions through design docs, tech talks, and the wiki.

Within 90 days, you will…
· Mentor newcomers via pairing, design review, and code review.
· Troubleshoot data integrity issues, data correlation issues, and data management.
· Define test plan / strategy and identify risks related to testing efforts.
· Create test cases based on requirement & technical design specifications for data validation.
· Identify and analyse data discrepancies and data quality issues and work to ensure data consistency and integrity.
· Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.
· Work across various groups & effectively drive testing of cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements.
· Push the team forwards thanks to your deep knowledge of the technical architecture, your ability to drill into any new technology in no time and your natural leadership.

The structure of the team you will join is

The Data Analytics group, also dubbed DMP (standing for Data Management Platform) is a key enabler in the digital transformation operated by VEON. VEON is strongly committed to aggressively grow this new division, which it sees as a key strategic objective in order to lay the foundations of future growth. The aim of this new unit is to provide Telecoms Intelligence Services which revolutionize the telecoms industry and enable mobile operators to make their business more profitable.

Within the group, the DMP Engineering team is made of around 15 engineers, comprised of very talented Site Reliability Engineers, Backend Engineers, Data engineers and QA Engineers. It is structured as small Agile teams of 4 to 6 people working with product owners, project managers, business analysts and data scientists. Within the Local Hub you will be working with team of Data Engineers, Developers and Data Scientists.

What else will you do?
· Empower the telecom operators of the VEON group with cutting-edge big data solutions to help them optimize their business with products enabling data-driven decisions.
· Support the digital transformation of VEON by delivering strategic and global data products serving marketplaces, partnerships, advertising, campaign management and analytics business cases.
· Work in association with the project managers, product owners, business analysts and data scientists in refining models and products. Daily interactions with the local telecom operator teams are expected, to provide support and also to better understand local constraints.

A bit about you
· You are a QA engineer obsessed with code quality and system reliability. You cannot think of releasing a piece of code without the associated functional, integration and stress tests.
· You can build utilities, functions, and frameworks to better enable testing of data flow patterns.
· You are passionate about shipping quality high-performance code
· You are knowledgeable about creating and executing efficient automated testing environment and infrastructure from scratch
· Experienced in working with Agile methodologies, continuous integration pipelines and code review processes.
· You can efficiently review the code produced by Data Engineering and Developers to load the necessary data from local and group sources onto the shared platform that are necessary for analysis and for commercial actions.
· Experienced with databases and data-driven applications, including solid understanding of physical database design principles, and the system development life cycle.
· Proficient background in Python; JVM-based languages, or equivalent; Familiar with HBase, Solr, NiFi, Kafka and Flume
· Proven experience with performance tuning applications on Hadoop and configuring Hadoop systems to maximise performance;
· Experienced in building systems to perform real-time data processing using Spark Streaming or Storm
· Some experience with other distributed technologies such as Cassandra, ElasticSeatch and Flink is a plus
